  • The ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria 51 (AC 51) for precast stone veneer is a rigorous set of tests on multiple criteria that are used by building professionals as a basis for approving products in projects that follow the International Building Code® (IBC) and International Residence Code® (IRC). It is the toughest testing in the industry, in fact. Most masonry manufacturers have not submitted their products for third party evaluation.
  
  • Comprehensive Strength: Important to durability and life of the stone. 1800 psi is the required compressive strength to meet the standards of ASTM C192 and C39. Ply Gem Stone has been tested at 4500 psi, creating one of the highest density products available.
  • Ply Gem Stone plants and processes have been audited to prove they are the highest quality, as verified in ICC evaluation report ER-3170.
  
  • Density/Weight: Concrete is light enough to handle easily and design with. Ply Gem Stone meets ASTM C567, and does not exceed 15 lbs per square foot.
  • Quality Control Process: A QC process is in place to provide consistency in product quality year after year, meeting requirements of  ICC-ES AC 10.
  
  • Tensile Strength: Stone is flexible enough to not crack as the mortar cures. Ply Gem Stone meets ASTM C190 after curing for 28 days.
  • Installation Instructions: Manufacturer installation instructions relay techniques in accordance with building codes.* Ply Gem Stone installation instructions meet requirements of ICC-ES AC 51.
  
  • Freeze Thaw Durability: Stones should withstand harsh temperature fluctuations. Ply Gem Stone meets ASTM C67 to ensure it does not break in harsh conditions.

  • Flexural Strength:  Stone withstands breakage when subjected to wind or wall settling. Ply Gem Stone meets ASTM C348 after curing for 28 days.
   
  • Absorption: Stone weight should be predictable even when wet. Ply Gem Stone exceeds the absorption requirements of section 3.1.4 and 4.6 of ICC-ES AC 51, one of the industry’s lowest absorption rates.

  • Shear Bond (adhesion): Stones stay on the wall when installed correctly. Ply Gem Stone meets ASTM C482, exceeding 50 psi bond strength after 28 days.
